Cisco IPS 4200 Series Intrusion Prevention System sensors offer significant protection to your network by helping to detect, classify, and stop threats including worms, spyware/adware, network viruses, and application abuse.

Used in conjunction with a Pix, the IPS will automatically reconfigure the Pix to block traffic it determines to be malicious.

Using Cisco IPS Sensor Software Version 5.0, the Cisco IPS solution combines inline prevention services with innovative technologies that improve accuracy. The result is more threats being stopped without the risk of dropping legitimate network traffic. The unique technologies that enable inline prevention are:

• Risk Rating: Through the correlation of four separate values (event severity, signature fidelity, target asset value, and attack relevancy), risk rating provides a more accurate and risk-balanced assessment of the risk associated with a given event.
• Meta Event Generator: Specifically designed to identify worms, Meta Event Generator models worm behavior and correlates specific time between events, network behavior, and multiple exploit behavior to more accurately identify and stop worms.
